A very quick update.

It appears the coolant issue can be traced down to our favourite coolant rail and the hoses that feed them being split. 99% of parts required will be sourced tomorrow and fitted in between night shifts over the weekend!

A full list of works carried out will be published in the next day or two!

By favourite I was referring to the coolant rail, in this case the hoses were providing an extra means of escape! :o

Work is now under way on the car and a full feature will be in the second magazine, but a few pictures as follows.

The car has required significantly more work than the engineers report carried out by the previous garage suggests. Sad to say that the car has been messed about with something rotten in the past, with the majority of work being carried out is a result of bad butchers and bad workmanship. Sadly due to the car having very little to no history, the car is a relative unknown.

The current goal is to get the coolant system sorted, and the car presented for MOT. If the car then proves to be OK, then further renovation can be carried out, but at this stage, getting the car to a state that we know it will run and drive is the sole priority.

Not quite sure yet, we're about as sure as how it happened, as it looks to have been like that for quite some time. It was only upon undoing the bolt and removing the mount that it moved.

.
Hmmm. last I heard of this car was when Lewis and Colin were in Wareham (Dorset) trying to get it going, and I was sat on the riverbank two miles away eating fish and chips and completely unaware of their plight! innit..

Well as a little bit of an update.

As of a fortnight ago, the car was 95% ready, bar the need to source a few extra parts with us spending a Sunday afternoon on running the car on the airfield. It was whilst removing the battery (as the original has died) to refit to the T-Plate, that we caught the reflection of water in the V.

Lone behold, that despite being bone dry when received the car from Austins, it had now decided to leak, as opposed to when it was already stripped. So the car was rolled back into the garage and stripped down.

Image

It transpires that someone had already been in there at some point. One of the two plastic clips used in the thermostat kit was missing and half of the second clip was sat in the V. Once the thermostat was removed, there was further evidence of automotive butchery. (See witness marks of suspected Chisel!)

Image

So a new kit, complete with inlet manifold gaskets was ordered and a new temperature sensor, as whilst we were in there, it seemed foolish not to change it. Whilst waiting for these parts, I was able to get a set of tyres fitted to replace the 4 odd tyres that the car came with, 2 of which were questionably on the wear bars.

Image

The car was built back up over the last two weekends, and pending satisfactory performance and no leaks during testing tomorrow, will be presented for MOT on Wednesday.
