That would depend on what options Phil enabled on it! Anyway, people are imaginative, they manage to mess up their cars in all sorts of ways already! :-)

Fantastic stuff Phil - I won't pretend to understand all of that, but well done on creating a copy/emulator/whatever

Oh and ditching Windows is always a good thing, even if it means struggling a bit at working out how to fix your own computer - I ditched Windows in 2008 for Linux and wouldn't go back :)

What would be the optimal RTOS for this, Linux or possibly Windows CE?

Great job btw!!

Have been doing bits and pieces to the code this week and have managed to carry out a DDE4 ECU upgrade with it :)

Unfortunately i can't ditch windows completely as the official T4 software runs on it and will be required but i have managed to speed it up a bit :)

I just need a good windows programmer to help out!!

I, like a great number of enthusiasts I suspect, am greatly interested in this. The point about messing things up is well taken. I am well aware of my limitations both as a mechanic of sorts and of course when it comes to the specialised subject of programming the car's software.
That said, some of the less dangerous aspects of T4 - daylight running lights, speed locking, bathrobe locking, dealer modifications I believe, would be the sort of thing I would feel confident attempting. I also appreciate that many of these options are generally set once ('on' or 'off') and left set.
In addition, a useful knowledge of T4 might help in fault diagnosis, saving an owner time and energy identifying faulty parts for repair or replacement.

Share some of concerns voiced above. It would of course be great if there were a "light” version released with ready made hardware leads to persons who perhaps could contribute something back financially. Basic fault finding, dealer options changes, deleting fault codes, perhaps even vis testing. All with a clear series of step by step instructions, and importantly, where to get advice if stuck.

But for the fully fledged testing then we need something like KDA4G’s Remote diagnostic T4, where all the tools are available in the experienced T4 operator’s hand and he can help members, whether they are in the UK, Sweden or even Australia, all the member needs is the ability to carry out the Teamview instructions eg “start the car and run it up to 1200rpm. And here you have to forgot geographical distances, it’s connection speeds that are important.

And if, as Phil T4 has said that he’s managed to speed things up a bit that is indeed good news for those of us on a rural connection (like me). What I feel would be even better news is if these two boffins can sit down and somehow compliment each other’s projects.

Phil you mentioned a need for a good windows software programmer to help out, I’ve got a friend who works with something called C Sharp (his full time job) any use to you?

Regards
vitesse

Mechanical bits can always be made or sourced from somewhere, I think it's the software that will really be the killer for our cars, however seems as someone is on the ball here - Phil?

Look forward to the App.

Er does the swear filter not work here????

Update for you all, the Virtual T4 is working very very well, it is just as fast as the T4 hardware now after a lot of tweaking and can access all the ZT/75 modules. Reflashing/upgrading the engine management systems is now possible as well. It appears to be very stable and runs perfectly on a my T4 laptop which is a 900Mhz Pentuim machine, leaving it running monitoring the real time data consumes an average 20% CPU Utilisation this also includes the T4 RDS software as well so not too bad :-D

With regards to experienced T4 operators, most of the operators have not had any training and only know things because of what they have been told! Yes i did do the course which was on a T1 back in 1995 :P

Going to start field trials tomorrow with a health check and a 160 upgrade, the T4 will be in stand by mode just in case :o

Had lots of fun with it Derek, e.g. the KWP fast Init had me stumped for a few days, some of the EMS2000 and MEMS3 commands produce a double reply to a single request, DDE comms require an interbyte delay otherwise the ecu doesn't process it but so far so good but still a way to go yet.
