Well, went for an MOT last week, the car was granted a clean sheet, bar one for a headlight beam too low. This was down to the innards of one of the Xenon headlights having come to bits, so some repair work has been carried out and the car is off for a test on Tuesday!

Just curious Jake, please could you tell me how you sorted the broken bolt hole in the block? iirc the top of the front plate bolts in there? Magic metal or summat? Aluminium welding?

I broke a similar chunk (but much smaller) out of my bell housing when removing my gearbox, thankfully a longer bolt did the job as there was enough good thread left (plus 6/7 other bolts) and I glued the broken chunk back for cosmetic reasons.

Went for some metal filler in the end, seems to have done the trick so far! :-D

Well the car has been with Martin for a week now, he's swinging in tomorrow for us to give it a quick check after it's first week on the road! Considering it's done 4,000 miles in the last 3 years or so, it's fair to say that this week has most likely been the hardest work it's done since being on set!

I enjoyed reading this thread also. Although I have admired the Rover for more than 40 years since I was 11, sitting in the playground drooling over the headmasters new 3.5 P6. I have owned other cars, and am a diesel head, but I have always had a Rover, not a Austin, not a MG but a Rover, and I always will. I cannot see myself owning anything other than a Rover. To me other motor companies may as well not exist either. Yet I do not understand why I have never had any interest whatsoever in the 'press car this', 'launch car that', 'who owned the car the other'. When these cars have been at meets I have never thought 'I must have a look at it'. I respect and understand the enthusiasm and passion for this, but I have none at all, never have, and never understood why. Weirdo does not explain it, there again perhaps that is all it is.

Ah yes sort of see your point, but, it was the headmasters car that got you into Rover, and I have to say, for me, it was seeing Midsomer Murders that got me liking the Rover and probably a lot more to, as it was seen by quite a few here or there, so I think you will find that the car has a large following for that reason alone.

Not sure if I ought to have started a new thread...but here you go.....as the new owner of AHA I can assure you it is in safe hands and its future is assured. I've always been a Midsomer fan and have previously owned 4 Rover 75's over the years, but as everyday cars, they don't tick all our family's boxes. This will be a special car, used sparingly, but definitely used, for special occasions and car shows etc. (taking it in turn with my DeLorean).

I am 'handy with the spanners' after a lifetime of tinkering and restoring old cars. AHA has been stood for quite a long time and is in the process of being 'fettled up' by me. Not restored to 'concourse condition'. I do like my cars to be in very good condition, but with their history and battle scars worn with pride .....and kept garaged. This car has History by the bucket full which I shall be putting back and polishing up. I look forward to seeing some of out and about over the coming years.
