The reason you drain the oil from the sump is for the very reasons that you mention, as it can NEVER remove all the sludge that goes with it! :(

I'm sure the motor will be fine, just keep an eye on it and drain and re-fill if you get any more problems. :)

Cheers Mark,

The engine is now smooth as its ever been and drove without fault on the way into work at 5am this morning, but will be still dropping the oil in 500 miles to be sure.

I'm sure that there will be folks that use the pump system, but not one for me I'm afraid, I'll try to get some pictures up!

Well, a case of we spoke too soon!

The tappet noise has returned after 200 miles, so it's back in the workshop tomorrow for another strip down to see if this is more grunge making its way into the sump, clogging up the feed pipe, or possibly worse!

New feed pipe to go onto the shopping list!

Quick update,

After the the return of the tappet noise along with now an erratic misfire and coolant loss, the decision has been made to have the engine out and rebuild. Our suspicion is either corroded liners, or corrosion in the water jackets, due to plain water in the cooling system. Due to time constraints, the rebuild will not take place until the winter.

After some investigation, the tappet noise and misfire have cleared and the car is running well.

As a result, I'm putting the car in for MOT tomorrow, carry out an oil and filter change, and coolant flush. The car will then be ran locally and monitored for coolant loss. If it behaves, time will be spent on the aesthetics, ahead of our shows later this year.

In short, the car will be put back on the road, where it belongs.

Apologies, I forgot to update this!

The car passed - with two 'H&S' advisories, as per last year.

The car is still using/loosing coolant, but not a great deal, but is getting used locally.

As this months salary is going on the V8, next month will hopefully see some new boots and other cosmetics.

Nice one :) Glad it passed.

Have you found the source of the leak?

Looking forward to see more updates on the cars :)

Just a thought about pre-production oddities - does the car's key have a blank oval on the back?

I think some pre-production cars and possibly even some early production cars did.

Just raising it as I bought a used fob to fix my broken buttons and it came with the blank oval back, dated Aug '98 (ordinary logo'd front half, dated Dec '98).

How's it still going anyway Jake?

I don't recall to be fair Colin, the original keys were sadly mullered by a family member (No, they haven't been forgiven!)

I realise that this thread is due for a bit of an update too!

MOA has been reunited with Lewis, who, now mechanically and electrically sorted by us, is going to focus on the cosmetics and ensure that the car is looking as good as it drives!

FYI Colin, the fobs of my launch car have the blank oval back. Don't know their dates as I didn't bother opening them up, but both do.

I’m good thanks Colin, and yourself?

Funnily enough, some more progress has been made, ready for the NEC. The wheels have been refurbished, and treated to a nice new set of Continental Tyres, with brand new centre caps to compliment them all. This evening I have taken the bumpers off, ready for them to go to paint at the end of the week...and yes the parking sensors are going back to black!
