At the hospital I used to work at, the Chief Resus Officer had a succession of cars all kitted out with hidden flashing lights, sirens, you name it, which he was always happen to show off and use - problem was that he wasn't trained in fast driving, and on more than one occasion, I saw him have very near misses....

They were nearly always blue!

TBH I think was because they were sourced through the Facilities Dept alongside all their usual stuff, and thus came in the standard colours, and I guess that all the mods were reversible - either that, or they assumed he'd write the cars off, so it didn't matter! :D

Cheers Simon, first job is to actually prove that that's the issue, not just another of the dozens of faults that I've found with the car! There was a slither of hope that it would be at silverstone, but this has ruled that out! :-(

What an odd discovery - I'd love to know the rationale behind taking a pair of pliers to the loom in that fashion.

Coming off of a night shift this morning granted me a little pottering time. The Midsomer car is nearly there, so investigating the wiring fault seemed a good idea, as I was able to do it inside a heated garage.

Upon dropping the fuse board, I was presented with two black wires, that had been cut. Both ran through the bulkhead, one leading to a spade conector, the other up to the earth on coil three. Wires were traced and removed.

Attention then turned to the wiring to the fuse board and BCU

After the massacre of insulation tape, these 'joints' into the main loom were revealed, which may explain the electrical issues

So next job is to try and disassemble these joints, and repair the wiring to standard.

Oh and empty the pool in the boot!

Did this car ever have a "remote start" fitted? i cant think of any reason for tapping into the crank line (White/Red cable) apart from that, cant see the colours of the other wires properly but they could have been used for a total closure module.

The car has had a Clifford alarm system at some point in its life. We can account for the car from 2008, so must have been done before then I suppose.

Well after a good few hours of playing contortionist, the wiring has been rectified. Ran out of time to test, but should there be any issues once finished, then I am stumped.

Interestingly had all the scuttle trims out as well, passenger side area was bone dry, the drivers side on the other hand, lots of water - thanks to the divider that appears to be unique on pre-production cars.

Ooo, could we have a pic of the divider please? 8-)

Probably best that was deleted for production though.

Any use Colin?

When the belts get done, thermostat gets changed etc, it will hopefully provide opportunity for a better photo!
