The reason you drain the oil from the sump is for the very reasons that you mention, as it can NEVER remove all the sludge that goes with it!
I'm sure the motor will be fine, just keep an eye on it and drain and re-fill if you get any more problems.
The engine is now smooth as its ever been and drove without fault on the way into work at 5am this morning, but will be still dropping the oil in 500 miles to be sure.
I'm sure that there will be folks that use the pump system, but not one for me I'm afraid, I'll try to get some pictures up!
