The seller has owned since new, including sales invoice.

New clutch, slave and DMF about 5k ago.

Was going to call wescrapanycar had we not contacted him.

The car didn't miss a beat driving from Hampshire, although the interior is soaking and it has multiple coolant leaks.

Will update as work progresses.

A hundred quid for that?! WOW!

So apart from water being where you don't want it, and water not being where you do want it, anything else to worry about?

Saw that when it was first put up - assumed it would be an absolute heap. Had they put the chap in a straight jacket before you arrived?

Ha, no we didn't haggle! He did ask if we still wanted it after he forgot to tell us about a dent in a door and a wet boot!

It was always going to be either a shed, or luckily straight, but with this much provenance, we were a bit dumbstruck! :)

Really nice, genuine chap!

In from a day in the workshop, possibly the most leaky thermostat housing I've seen.

The coolant rail is about nazzed too.

May as well do the belts etc now it's at this stage!

Just found the original dealer letter amongst the paperwork, sold by trident motors, along with tax disc holder.

It's also going to need discs and pads all around and a new carpet, as the current one is rather wet and minging.

The black Alcantara interior trim goes well with the Firefrost red - very nice early facelift example from mid-2004.

That is stunning for the money! Can I ask if you still have the Midsomer car as well? I'd love to see that in the flesh some day! :)

Yep, Midsomer is still alive and well, thanks to Martin! :-)

It's sat quietly in line for us to decide what route to go with it, as it needs a few bits for MOT.

Pictures to follow, but work on the read car continues. Changing of the thermostat evolved into a full belts, water pump and pulleys change.

The supplying dealer had done a belt change in 2010, but had only changed the belts. The original water pump when removed was like new, but the pulleys weren't far off home.

Thankfully we had all the parts in stores, bar the spark plugs, so some NGK iridium sparks have been fitted.

Once the fronts all back together, it's new rear springs, discs and pads all round, a spruce up underneath and a new exhaust, as I'm fed up of tripping over the stainless one in the shed.

Then dry and sort the inside.

When's the NEC again? :-)

HI Jake.
Great car I looked at the post but like others never thought much more of it, excellent work being carried out by you what lower metal coolant pipes are you going to use stainless steel ones ? also are you using the thermostat housing with the three lugs attached for extra stability cheers Arctic.

Hi Steve,

Apologies for the delay, the stainless rail we've used is the XPart produced PFV000090SS. It is of note that pre 01 cars had a different rail and pipe set up.

As for the thermostat, we just used a gen kit that was in stores.
I've got heard of this three legged stat - have you any pictures?
