also just noticed where you are - are you near the Gunpowder Mills? I have friends that live nearby there.. :)

Hi keV. Have a lot has happened over past few months, most notably changed jobs twice, which messed up my finances, so everything is on standstill. My carpet doesn't look good, so going to view a used one next week ( from a forum member). Also, seat belt light is still on, and I have narrowed it down to either impact sensors or the control unit. Will go for cheaper option and get replacement side sensors first. Won't put the interior back together til I sort out air bag light. So just lots of little jobs to do. Once I am happy with the interior, then I will start addressing the mechanicals. Haven't acquired the 180 as yet. Sorting out finances, and I'm in two minds as to whether to PX my Citroen C4, which is my daily car. Overall, it's been very low maintenance.

I do live close to gunpowder mills. About 1 mile away. I am thinking maybe I should sort out currentb ZT before I buy a next one. I am definitely getting another one.

blimey Brian.. all go then.. and I agree with you regarding sorting your current ZT out.. have you had the ZT on a T4 yet? can't remember if you mentioned it earlier..

This is a great thread. I have had many of the same issues with my 'rescue' 180 Sports Auto, but so far have had good luck with the rectification work. It was due for a Warrant of Fitness (our version of a MOT) and the airbag light was on, as it had been for many months. The week before I took it in I got under the seats yet again and pulled and prodded and twisted, as I have done with most of the 75/ZT's I've owned over the years (5 in total). You can imagine my delight when the light went out! It has stayed out ever since, and she flew through the WOF. Currently my biggest issue is with creaking/squeeking doors (windows on the rubbers), which is no big deal and not so easy to fix unfortunately. I'm yet to remove the carpets completely, but have partly removed them and used a heater for several days to dry the carpets and floor out. The sunroof drains are fixed. I'll continue to watch this thread with great interest and wish you the best in your rescue mission!

Hello Roger. When I bought the car, externally it was marvellous, but when I got inside - mould on seatbelts and seats. This was due to water ingress. Had to get rid of all the boot trim due to mould. It took me many weeks to finally sort it out all the leaks. But will be taking baby steps with it. Love this car, the engine starts with one turn of the key .

However the overall condition is not too bad, so it's just a matter of patiently working through things.

Hello chaps. It's getting warmer, and it's time to start on the car again. Can anyone point me to a post with "clear " steps to replace the timing belts. I was going to get it done professionally, but in the spirit of fit, I am willing to have a go.

Having seen how many different ways a "professional specialist" can bugger up this job, I carefully passed mine over to PhilT4 for his Magic Hands treatment to put it right. As mine is my work car, I couldn't risk any off-the-road delays whilst doing it myself. It took half a day for us to strip and assess & collect the bits to do the job & Phil did it all the next day, with all the right tools.
old bean's Disco V6 dropped its valves 2 years after a belt change - PhilT4 correctly suggested job had been done on torque only, without the final degree tightening & without careful progressive tightening. Dealer admitted that a former mechanic had done this a number of times with equal results, but 2 years was beyond job warranty! Car went to a specialist breaker/restorer for 3 times scrap value.

On Car SOS the method they use is to slice the belt through along its length (the one on the car. Remove the half closest to the outside of the gear wheels, slip the new belt on in its place, cut of the remaining half of the old belt and slide the new one in to the correct position. This way the timing cannot 'go out'.
