engine management light not working ZT diesel

Post Number:#1  Post by oneyedriley » July 17th, 2018, 10:59

Hi folks, this is my first post on the forum and I am hoping someone can help. My trusty and loved 2003 diesel ZT-T has failed the MOT, the most difficult item being the non-illumination of the engine management light. The instrument panel has been sent away for repairs and no fault found. The MOT garage which is generally helpful I think is out of its depth and I can see there is a prospect of the car being scrapped.because of this. Can anyone please suggest where I should start looking? Thanks!

Really need to contact Phil T4 on facebook he will know, but I think I read somewhere that the light does not illuminate on some cars . and not because of a fault ? .

Need to pull the fault codes from the IPK as soon as possible - as said above, there may not be any.
Most unlikely that there would be a fault on the IPK (instrument panel) itself.

Is there any way to force the warning light to ‘on’, on a diesel, without a T4 handy?

Spoke to Phil and hes said ....to answer your question, if you have the standard ipk then the separate mil light in the top portion of the ipk will come on,

the message centre ipk only has a check engine light.

Don't know what the OP has or if its been swapped at any time ??

Have you checked for some black tape over the light?

This, Shamelessly stolen from somebody who knows these inside out.

"Does it have the T21 boost temperature sensor in the top intercooler hose?

If not it is a pre EOBD model and the check engine warning lamp does not self test illuminate, it only is lit under specific fault conditions.

Failure of the throttle demand pedal

Or pre delivery fuel pressure below 220 KPA under engine load"

You should give this info to your MOT tester.

Yes- the car wasn't supposed to show the light as in the above post. If I recall the op took the info to the test station and they checked and he got his mot.
