A little time on ebay found what I hope will make the stand at the NEC next month:

And no, it's not the truck!

The car has been sat since July, so it may be a push, but we hope we can make it.

Fingers crossed

Cheers gents,

She has certainly cleaned up well! :) The interior requires a little pampering and tlc, but thankfully nothing that's LWB specific!

I'm not able to work out whether it's a McNeilie or a factory car.

What you have there is SARRJ ZLLM 3D 279967, in Starlight Silver, built 20th January 2003 as a 2.5V6 Connoisseur SE with highline navigation and interior in Ash / Light Smokestone.

The VIN suggests it was originally built as a Saloon, otherwise the VIN would start with SARRJ ZELM rather than SARRJ ZLLM. MacNeille conversions started officially in March 2002, and production of the factory long wheelbase cars did not start until 2004, so presumably it would have to be a MacNeillie conversion, and not built on a factory long wheel base bodyshell.

What's odd is that it has a 2004 registration plate (March to August 2004), an MG Rover vehicle preparation date of 26th November 2004, facelift bumpers, and no Premium grill.

The registration number BX04 WRK comes up on DVLA as first registered 22nd April 2004, and is described as Gas/Bi-fuel (i.e. LPG), but this is not always reliable on DVLA, so it may not have been an LPG vehicle. Another possibility is that it was kitted out with LPG, which was then removed, facelift bumpers put on, and the vehicle sold in November 2004.

Are there any signs that it was ever LPG?

Thank you for collating that Derek, I knew the car is a little bit of a mystery, but when all the details are there, it is a real enigma.

The car still has a complete and operational LPG system. The MOT history shows that the car details were changed to include LPG Bi-fuel in 06, so it's not a factory job.

For a 2003 built car, it's had extensive facelift conversion as the tailgate opens on the remote, the twin piping and soft rear pocket on the seats are present. The car also has light oak dash, but smooth, gloss finish switch-packs on the window switches and some PPD features are there, which I strongly believe have been there since new. It has the earlier velour door seals, and piled carpet.

There are no Mcneillie badges in the glass, which would suggest to me that it's a factory car. It also has an MG Rover Group Chassis plate.

My wonder is if the car was a workshop aid/instruction tool for the factory production line. But this is speculation at best.

At the minute the project isn't looking good, as the sellers are now reporting to having lost the locking wheel nut key, with a replacement taking at least a week.

All Mcneilie Limo's came off the production line as saloons. My one Jake left the production line at Longbridge as a regular 4 door car on 4th July 2002 @ 15:50:11. It was originally fitted with Ash Grey seats and carpets with the trim code of LBB, according to the factory records. Then Macneillie coach builders were commissioned to convert it to a Long Wheel Base by F.J Keen and Son Ltd, Battersea (now a Ford dealer) on 12th November 2002 some four months later, at this stage it was fitted with the Sandstone Beige leather interior.
Mine also have the Mcneilie's in the rear window glass

Well, many beers will be bought for Lewis at the NEC weekend, as by chance he had a key that fit! :-)

Getting the wheels off revealed brakes that hadn't been changed for a long time. Thankfully, a full set of discs, pads etc was sat in stores waiting!

I'm taking this opportunity to give the callipers a rub-down and paint. Pictures to follow.

Bugger, I'd not thought that far ahead, but would guess it will Dave, if you're able to help? :hail:

One appears to be weeping oil through it, so would say it's U/S. Will test both tomorrow and let you know. I've still got a bag of motors from various yards, so will send you a few sets in case these are well and truly mullered!

Well that does now explain why the eBay listing was ended early before I could put a bid on the car then! :(

At least I know that it's in good hands! :)

Surely a simple look underneath should be able to tell you this Jake, as I thought that McNellie cars would have two massive welds underneath and a factory car wouldn't?

I've not been able to look at a car that we definitely know as a factory vehicle to see how they're put together. I have a feeling they just took the same McNeilie process but in-house. :)
