The body shell components for the factory built Limousines were surely Rover designed, even if MacNeillie's were using them - there are quite a few parts listed, including complete body shells: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001770

There are also bespoke wiring harnesses for the factory LWB.

I don't know whether MacNeillie's used all of these same components - including a one-piece roof - or whether they literally performed a cut/insert/weld operation on a jig, with components of their own design.

They were of course building three different variants:
4-door Vanden Plas saloon (for Rover)
6-door Vanden Plas saloon - their own product
4-door Vanden Plas hearse - their own product

So they would have needed parts for all of these.

A little update as we approach the end of the week.

By the end of the weekend, the car will have had the following:

Front and Rear Brake discs, pads and handbrake shoes.

Front drop links

Spring Protector Kit fitted.

Full service including brake fluid and auto transmission fluid.

Replace the set of forks with a set of Vikings

Reseal the rather wet boot.

Sort out the highline wiring in the boot.

I'll aim to get some pictures over the weekend.

Very interesting one, wonder if Rover got MacNeillie to extend it and then used it at Longbridge as a reference for building their own in-house?

I'm sure I have heard of some paint problems on the roof of MacNeillie's due to the cut'n'shut, so would assume that the MacNeillie cars extended the roof, rather than replacing with a factory panel - unless the paint problems are due to the whole roof having been replaced.

Impressed with your progress as always Mr Wilson :hail:

Today went off to a good start:

The car drives really well over the 50 or so miles it did yesterday. The fuel economy isn't great at about 22, but seems to be on the increase.

Well, it certainly looks very good at the NEC, it appears perfect and the sodium lighting makes the silver look quite attractive!

I can confirm it is a most pleasant example, it wears its miles very well, and it must be said it even looks good in silver!
