As a quick update, the lights and central locking issues have now been sorted! It had been planned to get the car in the air this afternoon to inspect prior to MOT, however set-backs with the Midsomer car have prevented this!

Thanks Jake :)

Perhaps that's why production cars have a small rubber grommit there - blanking the locating hole originally intended for the divider.

At some point I would like to do a bit for the Wiki documenting all the pre-production features that didn't make production, this can be included.

Judgement day for this one tomorrow. Has had a good check-over, but first time on the road since 2009, so fingers crossed that it gets to MOT and passes!

How can item number 3 be an advisory?!

Are we supposed to take covers off pre-Mot then? If not, surely 99% of cars will now get this "advisory"!

Good stuff - I had the engine cover advisory, and also an under tray advisory - but are the rear indicators lenses really discoloured, or just smoky

I had an advisory for a discoloured bulb, looking at the flashing light there was the slightest of difference, but when I took the bulbs out and compared them, the brighter one was perfct and the slightly lighter one did indeed have a 'bald' patch from where the amber coating had flaked of, and it was clear that it was peeling and that more was going to come off. So well done to the MOT man for spotting it, it could easily have gone completely 'bald' within a year, and as I only check the bulbs by operating the lights and checking for warnings on the dash (apart from the ones that don't throw up a wnrning) then I wouldn't have known if it had started flashing white.

Jake wrote:Coming off of a night shift this morning granted me a little pottering time. The Midsomer car is nearly there, so investigating the wiring fault seemed a good idea, as I was able to do it inside a heated garage.

Upon dropping the fuse board, I was presented with two black wires, that had been cut. Both ran through the bulkhead, one leading to a spade conector, the other up to the earth on coil three. Wires were traced and removed.

Attention then turned to the wiring to the fuse board and BCU

After the massacre of insulation tape, these 'joints' into the main loom were revealed, which may explain the electrical issues

So next job is to try and disassemble these joints, and repair the wiring to standard.

Oh and empty the pool in the boot!

What is the history of this car? I ask as I had a pre-production Mk1C sterling, one of the first with a CCU and a good few VINs prior to the CCU looms introduction to production. That car also has this sort of thing present all tthough the loom and my theory was that test equipmement had been conected and the wiring solderd onto the approriate wires, they were unlikley to do it any other way as the test cars would have been considered disposable
